English is one of my core classes, which means that I have it right before history and I still have the same teacher. In english we go over run-ons, fragments, incomplete sentences, completete sentences, verbs, and nouns. We just basically go over what any english class would. In english we also read four books every quarter. Then she makes sure we really read the book so she reviews it with us, this is called a "book talk". Sometimes we read books as a class. We work on our Spelling Vocabulary Grammar or ( SVG) packet. When we bring it in the next day we go over it. I really like my english class, because it is really fun.

We are reading the book Shabanu: Daughter Of the Wind, by Suzanne Fisher Staples. This book is about a girl named Shabanu that goes through some really hard times. Her sister Phulan, who has come of age to be married, is a daydreamer. Shabanu is a hard worker. She is stong, and she does the toughest jobs around the house. She tends to the camels, delivers their babies, she is just strong. She is also very brave. When something bad has happenned and she knows she has to do something she will do it. Shabanu is a free spirit. She wants to do what she loves, and she will do it even though she won't be able to. She does not like the idea of marriage. She is afraid it will tke her freedom away from her, however the time is soon coming fo her betrothal. Her personality does get her into some trouble.
Her sister is very dofferent from Shabanu. She loves marriage. She is really ecited, because she is the one who is getting married in the book. Shabanu says that her sister is hard to understand, because she changes her mind so quickly. As you can see Shabanu, and her sister Phulan are very different. They like different things. Their personalities are different. Although they are very different, they still love each other. This book connect to what I've learned about the customs of the people in Arabia and other countries around there.
This book helped me learn the hardships of girls like Shabanu. It also helped me learn about her culture, and the different things they do. The girls have to make a lot of sacrifices. I've also learned that Shabanu really does have a hard life. In conclusion, the book Shabanu has taught me many things.
